God has been so good to us these past few days. We finished out a great week at VBS with Placer Heights Baptist Church. There were ten who declared that this past week they accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior! God is good! We weren't initially scheduled to go to Placer Heights on Sunday, but plans changed and we were there. The reason I'm telling you that is because we were able to see four of Kelsey's students in the youth class go before the church, declare their decision to follow Christ, and ask to be baptised. It was such a beautiful time. David (the dad of our host home and another leader in the youth class) has been praying for these students to come before the church for years. He broke down in joyful tears as he was able to introduce these students to the church as his brothers and sisters in Christ! Praise God!!
On Saturday we were able to be part of another awesome task. We served as volunteers for the Christmas in July at a Sacramento Area Migrant Camps. There were at least 75 people there to serve at four different sites. When we gathered with our group the leader of our camp Cora gathered us in a big circle and started us to singing "This is the Day the Lord has Made!" It was a beautiful time for me to cry a couple tears, relieve anxiety, and again acknowledged GOD IS GOOD and GOD IS GOING TO TAKE CARE OF TODAY JUST LIKE HE'S TAKEN CARE OF EVERYDAY! There were I dare say 150 people out in the courtyard ready and waiting on us when we showed up. There were children who ran alongside the bus with beautiful smiles expecting great things. We were able to provide some great things, not by our power, but in God's power working through His people. There were clothes, toys, hygiene packs, basic groceries, hamburgers and snow cones passed out. We also enjoyed games and conversation with the residents of the Migrant Center. It was wonderful how God allowed us to communicate with each other. There were times when I had no clue what was being said, but someone who could help me communicate or we would figure it out with hand motions. It was a beautiful time.
Now we are at Kidz Camp at Camp Alta. Sunday to Wednesday we're working with 4-6th graders. They have so much energy!! It is a good taste of what I'll see in the fall as I start teaching. Today we had a great time in recreation. Every student participated and they all seemed to enjoy themselves for the most part. It has been good.
There is a saying that has been in my mind today, it is "be Jesus to someone today, you may be the only Jesus they see". I don't always feel like I'm worthy to be Jesus to someone, but He has cleansed me and made me new. He will work His great plan to further the Kingdom of God. He wants us to be in loving communion with Him, walking with Him daily. He will lead us to love others, which lead me to the lyrics below
"Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like you have loved me
Break my heart for what is yours
Everything I am for your kingdom's cause
As I walk from earth into eternity"
-Hillsong United, Hosanna
So I guess I'll end this blog with a challenge that I have placed upon myself. I challenge you to be in loving communion with God and be Jesus to those around you for you may be the only Jesus they see.
